The Snapper Brand

What Do They  Stand For?

Snapper’s brand motto is ‘easy to own, easy to use’. It has led the mower industry for years.

It built the first-ever self-propelled rotary lawn mower more than half a decade ago.

Snapper offers a large variety of outdoor equipment such as riding tractors, zero-turn mowers, walk behind mowers, self propelled mowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers. The mowers are known for great designs, easy operation and versatility.

Snapper mowers got their name from the unique character of their blades to ‘snap’ at grasses, rather than slice them. The first lawnmower design resembled a snapping turtle. The snapping turtle statue on the bodies of early models fortified the Snapper image.

How Did They Get Here?

The company that became the manufacturer of  Snapper mowers was a sawmill on the verge of dissolution. It was founded in McDonough, Georgia in 1894. Then, it was known as the Southern Saw Works. It later became McDonough power company.

Following its business decline in the 1940s, it was purchased by William Smith. Smith introduced lawnmowers into the company’s product line. He got a licence to produce a unique blade type his engineers had invented – the ‘snapper’. He registered the name and the company amassed significant financial growth.

Simplicity Manufacturing acquired ownership of Snappers in 2002. Thereafter, Simplicity was purchased by Briggs and Stratton. 2 years ago, KPS Capital Partners became the owner of Snapper.

Where Are Snapper Mowers Produced?

The Snapper mowers were initially produced in Georgia. After 120 years, the manufacturing facilities were relocated to Newyork in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Munnsville. Even after the takeover by KPS Capital Partners, the manufacturing facilities have remained there.
